What a year 2020 has been. As the coronavirus pandemic swept the world, life changed for all of us in ways inconceivable just a year ago: social distancing, lockdowns, furloughs, face masks and panic buying.
As a species we’ve adapted, of course; often in creative and ingenious ways: from the rise of home working and Zoom meetings to takeaway Sunday dinners! Yet, while some have survived or even thrived in this ‘new normal,’ many parents are rightly concerned about the impact of the pandemic on both the mental health and education of their children.
With many schools struggling to cope, parents have turned to tutoring services like This Child Can to support children at risk of falling behind. But while we’re all familiar with what tutors do, there is understandable caution around online tuition.
Does it really work? Is it as good as face-to-face tuition?
The answer to both questions is a resounding ‘YES!’ But don’t just take our word for it.
A report by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) – an independent charity dedicated to breaking the link between family income and educational achievement – found that remote learning produced results either higher or the same as traditional instruction.
Of course, it’s not just as simple as ‘online learning is better,’ with the report finding that:
- teaching quality is more important than how lessons are delivered;
- supporting pupils to work independently can improve learning outcomes; and
- different approaches to remote learning suit different types of content and pupils.
We couldn’t agree more, which is why, at This Child Can, we pride ourselves on the quality and dedication of our staff; our technological proficiency; and our focus on independent learning, tailored to the needs of each child.
Convinced yet? We hope so! But whether you’re ready to embrace online learning or you’re happier sticking to face-to-face tuition, we’re here to help. Just drop us a line and we’ll get straight back to you.
