Our family SEND support service can help you in many ways, including:

  • advice on completing an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP), a legal document that identifies a child or young person’s needs and sets out the additional support their school must put in place to help them;
  • understanding reports and documents, which are often filled with worrying or unfamiliar terms that can be unsettling and confusing for many parents;
  • understanding your rights, including SEND legislation and schools’ obligations in meeting the needs of your child;
  • listening to you at what can be a difficult and emotional time;
  • giving you friendly and helpful advice on where to turn and who to turn to; and
  • advising on specialist topics, including home schooling, the EHCP process and the role of the SENDCo.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is SEND?

SEND stands for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. It covers a wide range of learning difficulties or disabilities that can affect a child or young person’s ability to understand, socialise, concentrate and take part in physical activities.

You can find out more about SEND on our useful links page.

Does my child need SEND provision?

This is something we’d need to discuss as it requires a thorough assessment of your child.

Generally though, if your child has physical, social, or emotional issues that significantly hinder their learning, or their progress is significantly below expectations, they are likely to qualify for SEND provision.

My child’s school isn’t listening to my needs; can you help?

Yes! We can mediate between you and your child’s school, ensuring discussions are both professional and focused on your child’s needs. We can also provide you with an independent written assessment of your child that you can share with the school as a professional ‘second opinion’ of your child’s needs.

I need advice about an issue that isn’t on your website. Can you help?

Of course! Please just drop us a line via our enquiry form and we will be more than happy to advise.

Do I need to provide any equipment?

To communicate with our staff, you will need a computer with a reliable internet connection and a webcam (camera) with a microphone.
